Site information

Important

Members and accompanied guests only at request of Farmer

This is a newly negotiated site and it is open to KHPA members only and accompanied guests on a trial basis, it is imperative that all site rules/guidance are adhered to if we wish to keep its use for the longer term.

At present if you wish to fly this site contact Phippsy on 07785593559 or Brian on 07974194308 and they will contact the farmer. He does not want lots of different people calling him, hopefully after some use this may get relaxed. Ideally in the first instance try and go with either of the above on your first visit.

Altitude: 140 feet

Height Top to Bottom: 110 feet

How to get there:

Drive through Flushing Village following the road till it comes to a Gate then park on road in accordance with restrictions. Walk Through the gate and follow the footpath around Trefusis Point and through the first wooded area. On exiting the wooded area you are on the southern end of the site. Proceed along the footpath till about 2/3rds of way to next wooded area and then walk up the hill to take off ideally near to a gateway into field behind.

Vehicle Access & Parking: Limited on street parking

Rules and Restrictions: Ensure permission to fly has been sought prior to arriving Contact Phippsy 07785593559 or Brian 07974194308

Only land in fields behind the ridge with prior consent.

Take off: Can be anywhere along the top of the ridge to suit but as in Access notes ideally by the gateway. Be aware that it is a small area and the risk of being dragged back into the hedge needs to be considered.

Top Landing: It is possible in front of hedge on the take off area but does require some skill as you are landing in lift on a narrow strip with a hedge close by. If the field behind is not in crop / use and the Farmer has agreed this can also be used but be aware that it does slope towards the hedge.

Bottom Landing: There is a narrow strip at the bottom that can be landed on crosswind, this also forms the footpath so be aware of walkers. This strip in curtailed at both end by trees so there is a limited length to get down in. If you miss it the next option is rocks when the tide out and water if it is in.

Slope landing is good when growth low but again curtailed by trees at both ends.

If conditions are good it is possible to fly to the south over the trees and to land on the larger area that faces the docks and is the bottom landing for the southerly face, just remember the wind will be off to the east.

Hazards: Military low flying. Water “landing” trees, growth and hedges. Turbulence with thermic activity.

XC Tips: This can be a thermic site, keep your eyes out for seagulls out in front and “wind patches” on the water. Currentsite record is to Illogan on the North coast.

General Tips: This can be a thermic site in the right conditions and as such altitudes can vary quickly both up and down along with associated turbulence. Generally not advised to fly unless the seagulls are soaring. Keep landing option always in mind. There is also a large tree at the northern end which must be considered regarding turbulence especially if low and having to fly behind it whilst setting up for a slope landing.

Met Services: Dialmet is available for RAF St. Mawgan and RNAS Culdrose.

All information is for guidance only. All pilots must make their own assessment of the site.

Don’t Forget: Use CANP to notam your intention to fly 4 hours beforehand.
